March Meet Drag Races – Bakersfield, California. Round 14 Inch heavy metal sign with predrilled holes on top and bottom for easy hanging. A true racing collector’s item!
Bakersfield was an unfamiliar oil town and known as the last stop before the road to Los Angeles. In the late 1950s, drag racers from around the country began pouring into Famoso for quarter-mile runs. The March Meet was headed by the Smokers, a local race club who began racing at Famoso. Garlits appeared in the races in 1959 and spread the fame of the track, March Meet and Bakersfield far and wide. The March Meet and Famoso Raceway created an entire generation of both racers and racing fans and marked Bakersfield as the hot spot for the event.
