Tom’s Peanuts Sign from the Vintage Sign Source. Made from heavy gauge metal with predrilled holes in each corner for easy hanging. Add this peanut advertising sign to the walls to bring back the days of selling peanuts for a nickel a bag, Tom’s Toasted Peanuts. Tom Huston in 1925 founded ‘Tom’s Roasted Peanuts’ and began selling them for five cents a bag. Within two years, these peanuts were being sold around the country generating almost $4 million in sales. In 1966, General Mills acquired the business and changed the name to ‘Tom’s Foods.’
